A Home Birth in Madison, IN — Indiana Birth Photographer

I woke up to the call one early late August morning before the sun had fully risen to the text: “Are you awake? This is a heads up text before I call you.” Shortly after came the call. It was her due date, and she was excited that it might finally be the day. I drove the hour and a half from my house to hers, watching the sun rise higher and higher as I drove. As the sun crept up, so did this ecstatic, yet calming feeling that I always get on my way to a birth.

Soon I arrived with full sun, coffee in hand, to enter their home filled with excitement and uncertainty. “Is this it? Am I getting closer? Should we call the midwife?” were the questions hanging in the air. After a few more timed contractions, growing seemingly closer together, Kelly called her to begin to making her way over. During that time, the flow of a home birth began to take motion. Smoothies were made and drank; contractions, tub starts to be filled; contractions, doula arrives; contractions. Soon, it was time to get in the tub and even sooner after that, a baby was flawlessly born into his mother’s arms. This is a typical home birth. Right? Nope. Each one is so unique in of itself. The images speak for themselves, but I’d love to offer more detail. This home was so filled with love and excitement over what was to come. The children were happy helpers, filling the tub for their parents, being a source of comfort for mama, or even going as far to pray over her. Their daughter, Emma (same name as my oldest :) ) even assisted the midwife and did a little placenta finger-painting! The birth team was hospitable, feeding mama (and even me) homemade zucchini bread. And the family even had a beautiful rainbow birthday cake….as this was a Rainbow Baby’s birth, after all. The kais were especially excited about that. I left feeling warm and full of so much love. From the home of a sweet and loving family, full from fellowship that left me beaming, yet again.

The littles of this family even helped me snap some pictures. I bet you can’t tell which one are “theirs”! ;)
